B and D – On the Road

Parks and People

We have spent the last few days just sight seeing in the area of Mackinac.  We had been to Mackinac City years ago so we just did a quick visit there and then went south to try and find a big grocery store and a big hardware store.  We needed to change out the wand on the end of our faucet in the kitchen and stock up on groceries.

We have had some interesting people in the RV park.  A couple set up next to us the first day we were here and they put together a very elaborate outdoor kitchen set up.  They had a portable convection oven, a portable induction cook top, a double burner cooker (had a grill top on it) that was attached to a good sized portable propane tank that had a propane powered light attached to it, plus a huge grill set up over the fire pit area.  They then had a propane grill similar to ours.  They set up several tables in the area and a few lawn chairs.  They were traveling with a group (we think family) in another RV that showed up later that day.  They grilled steaks, baked a dessert in the over and cooked vegetables on the big double grill.  They never used any of this set up again until the night before we left when the lady did a stir fry dish on the big double grill.  So they put all this stuff up to use it only twice in seven days.  Seemed like a lot of work for something that was not used.

A couple of days after we got there the people across the road road from us left and new people moved in that area.  It was three RV’s traveling together and after some effort they managed to get them backed into their spots.   One of them made us very nervous as he tried to back in as he was getting very close to our car that was parked in front of our coach.  The driver finally got out and an older man got in and got it parked.   On Monday while we were at  Mackinac Island they rearranged their RV’s and we are not sure how they managed it.   Where we were parked we were in a pull through site, so you go in at one end and you should be able to just pull out at the other end when ready to leave.  The folks across the way were all in back in sites that backed up to wooded areas or just empty land with no road access.  We returned to find that they had turned one of the travel trailers around and had it going into the site the wrong direction.  We guess they just then disconnected their vehicle and drove it out through the grass.  They had also taken one of the other trailers and moved it sideways along side the road so that they then had formed their own little compound.    Within the U shaped compound they then set up a few tents, tarps and several tables and lawn chairs.  They did not have sufficient room for all their vehicles so they had some of them overlapping into the road.  We were shocked that the RV park allowed them to do this as it did create a issue when we were trying to leave as we could not pull forward out of our site because of their vehicles.  Needless to say Bruce gave this place some negative feedback when they sent the request to us.  I was really hoping they would leave before us so we could watch them untangle all that mess.  They had water hoses and power lines running all over the place because they were not parked as they should have parked.
