B and D – On the Road

Pecos National Monument

On the next day we went to Pecos National Monument, we did not get there until the afternoon so did not spend too much time.   It is similar to Bandelier in that you can tour ancient houses. There is the remains of an old church that you can tour along with the remains of the old pit houses.

The church had been destroyed previously and then rebuilt but again much of it has been destroyed.

Bruce went down one of the ladders into one of the houses, much easier today as we had not had to hike up the side of a canyon to get to it.  The Pit House ruins at Bandelier were not as complete as the ones here, but it appears much of these are being rebuilt.

It was also much cooler as it was overcast and part of our time was spent in a light rain.  Pecos National Monument does not have as much to tour as Bandelier but if in the area a place to spend a couple of hours.  It is also free.  We have our lifetime national park passes for access to the parks and monuments.
