B and D – On the Road

Ginnie Springs

Ginnie Springs

This afternoon we decided to visit one of the local springs and picked Ginnie Springs.  If you have never been to one of the springs in Florida you really need to go at least once.  The water stays at 72 degrees year round.   When it is high in the nineties and you try to get in the water it is very hard to convince you body to keep moving forward and get deeper and colder.  Bruce is much better at just getting in, I have to do it very gradually.  I never managed to get my head under the water and snorkel while we were there but I did at least get neck deep.  Bruce snorkeled and took pictures of one of the caves under water and a picture of me, of course all you can see is from my shoulders down as he was underwater at the time.  I won’t publish my picture but have included a picture of a little boy swimming in the spring.

We have visited in the Homosassa Springs area on a previous trip and had an opportunity to snorkel with the Manatees and took a a kayaking trip into the springs, also visited at a state wildlife park to see the manatees.  If you have an opportunity to go there it is well worth the visit.

The cold water reminded me of the cold in the Frio River back home in Texas.

We need to return and try some of the springs during January or February.  We have ben told the water is even clearer in the winter and it feels better getting into the water as the air temperature is lower than the water temperature.
