B and D – On the Road

Creation Museum

We have moved into Kentucky now, staying close to Williamsport. We came here to visit the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum that is about another hour north of here. On Saturday we visited the museum after going out to lunch at a Famous Dave’s BBQ restaurant. Bruce really likes the burnt ends that they serve with fried onion strings. We first ate at one when we were visiting Glacier National Park two years ago. We were not traveling in our RV for that trip so were staying at various hotels as we were visiting many of the national parks in the western states. There was a Famous Dave’s within walking distance of the hotel so we thought we would give it a try.  We enjoyed it so much that we ate there probably 3 more times during the week we were staying at the hotel. They make their own potato chips seasoned with a BBQ seasoning and give you a bowl at the beginning of the meal.

The Creation Museum was ok, but not as interesting as I had anticipated. They also had a petting zoo, a botanical garden and a zip line. We toured the museum first (very cold inside) and it was not very crowed which was surprising. I was concerned that it might be real busy on a Saturday. The museum had exhibits comparing scientific and biblical answers for various questions about the world. There was also information on Noah’s Ark and the Tower of Babel and how Dinosaurs fit into the picture.  As you first entered they had a display of birds and frogs.  One was about the different types of finches.

I really enjoyed the Insectorium and seeing all the collection of insects.

Very large beetles

More large beetles

Loved the wings on these insects

Colorful crickets

Looked like wood on the beetles back

Looked like these had been painted with green enamel

Giant walking sticks

Beautiful blue butterfly

We toured the garden and the petting zoo before calling it quits for the day.  You can do camel rides, but we passed on that option.

Found some cute chickens that Jerry and Georgina need to get.

Georgina needs this one

Monster in the bog?

I would suggest to the museum that they put in some automatic doors for those in wheel chairs. While standing just inside the door while waiting on Bruce I spent much of my time opening doors for couples where one was in a wheel chair and they were having difficulty getting out the door.

You can collect chickens along the way for Jerry and Georgiana. LOL. thank you for sharing your adventures. Enjoyed reading about the Creation Museum and the Ark.

I won’t be able to collect the actual chickens but I will take pictures of the different varieties we spot. The white chicken looked very soft and the other one was like a diva. Strutting around tossing it’s head with those feathers sticking out on top.

There was a Famous Dave’s BBQ here in Pensacola it was so bad that it closed after about two years. Gayle and I went one time and never returned.

I never knew there was a Famous Dave’s there. All the ones we have eaten at over the years have been good. Bruce likes them because you can get brisket. Many BBQ places don’t have beef, just pork or chicken.
