B and D – On the Road

Alma Center RV park

We have been staying at a RV park in Alma Center/Hixton, Wisconsin.  It is one of the prettiest parks we have ever stayed in while traveling.  It is beautifully landscaped and the area where we are parked is built up on terraces so no two of the RV’s are level with each other so it gives you better views of the area.

They have shrubs or flowers between each of the sites so it gives you a little more privacy and the areas are very wide so you have plenty of space between RV’s. Lots of apple trees that were loaded with apples.

On our first full day here we planned on going out sight seeing and left the rv but came back after a short drive as it was just too rainy outside.  It is a good thing we returned, we discovered the power was off, the circuit breaker had flipped on the parks box.  In hindsight it had probably flipped the evening before and we did not know it because we were not trying to use our air conditioner as it was fairly cool.  I had cooked dinner with no problem, but when taking a shower later that evening I noticed the water was not getting hot so Bruce turned on the burner which heats the water using diesel instead of just having the electric heat.  In the morning we had not used anything that would not work off the batteries in the coach.

When we returned I decided to do some laundry and that is when we found the problem.  Bruce flipped the breaker back on and everything started working. That lasted about one hour then it was off again.  Bruce was napping so I went out and flipped it on again.  He woke up as I was coming back in the coach so he went to the office to request they fix the breaker.  Long story short, the handy man came to the coach but was resistant to change it as it had been working for an hour by then (of course I was not cooking or doing any laundry).  Bruce insisted so the guy went back to the office and got a new breaker and came back with the owner.  We then found out why he resisted, he did not really know what he was doing.  He finally got it changed and no problem after that fix.

While here we decided to have a fire on our last night.  They were selling blocks of wood that had faces carved into them so we got one.

Wood Face

The center of it is hollow and the eyes and mouth are cut back to the center hole so there is good air flow.  The instructions say to lay it on its side, put some type of fire starter into the center hole and light it.  Once it starts good, you flip it back up.  It has a handle stapled to the back side for lifting it.  To get it to last longer the instructions said to spray the face with water to keep the flames from burning through it so fast.

Below is a video of the log burning.  It lasted about 3 hour before it finally collapsed down on its side, we did not have to spray it with water to keep it going as we were ready for bed.  We were getting tired and were thinking about dumping water on it.  Once it fell over it really started to burn good but we eventually dumped water on it so we could go to be
