B and D – On the Road

Easter and Heather’s birthday

Big crawfish boil last night  with family, including one of Bruce’s uncles that had come to the farm with part of his family.  Birthday cake for our daughter since her birthday is on Sunday.   Had a good time visiting with everyone then wrapped the evening up pealing the left over crawfish.  Sunday was off to church and later that day out to dinner before Heather left to go back to Houston.

Still being flooded with text with request for viewing the house and more offers being planned per the feedback on the viewings.  Glad we listened to our realtor on the price we listed at, we had thought it should be lower but she had recommended the higher price.

Not only are we getting text on the viewings but text from the ADT for our alarm system.  We set up special codes for the realtors so we can tell when our realtor or another realtor arms or disarms our system.  That way we can monitor to make sure if someone is going in when they are not supposed to be there and also that they rearmed the system when they left.

So far we have been very pleased with our realtor.  We had talked with another realtor first but were not real happy with how she came across to us and all her suggestions for the house.  Her business card has her posing in an animal print, skin tight dress with 4 inch heels.  The first time she came to the house she also wore the high heels and was not able to walk around outside because she had trouble with her heels sinking in the yard.  She also wanted us to repaint basically the entire house making sure we used high quality neutral colored paint since our colors were not neutral enough for her.  Bruce pointed out to her that we had the house professionally painted a couple of years ago using the highest quality paint offered by Sherwin Williams.  We should rearrange all the rooms and make our breakfast room into a coffee nook.  She was not impressed with the fact that we had made all these upgrades to the house over the years.  Per her all new house would have the upgraded windows, blown in insulation, etc.  so it did not matter that we had done the upgrades.  She did not care for the carpet, the counter tops and the fact that it was not an open floor plan.  We  pointed out that we were not trying to compete with a new home we were selling an older home in the country.  She came back a second time as we got closer to listing the house and we told her we were taking with another agent.

The realtor we are using came from a company recommended by the realtor that handled the sell of Bruce’s sister’s home.  They are about as opposite as could be in their style, not just their personal style but how they handle selling an older home.   She came out prepared to walk the property, was dressed professionally and advised against painting, shampooing the carpet or changing any floors or counter tops.  Thought all the upgrades we had done through the years were great and she had experience in selling homes on acreage.  We still had some paint work and pressure washing done outside simply because we would have done it anyway if we had stayed.
