B and D – On the Road

Charleston, SC

We have moved to the Charleston area for a few days.  We were here two years ago and went out to Fort Sumter National Park and did some site seeing in the area so we did not have any significant plans for this area.  We did decide to go see Angel Oak and tour the Audubon Center at the Forest Beidler Forest.

Angel Oak is an Oak tree estimated to be 400 years old.  Looks like a great tree for climbing but they do have all kind of signs telling you to stay off of it.

Just a quick trip to see it then we went on to the Audubon Center.

It was about an hours drive from where we are staying.  As were driving there I mentioned to Bruce that the drive seemed to be a little familiar as we got further and further into the woods.  We got there and realized we had toured the center last time we were in this area.

Decided to go ahead and take the walk again but this time we were prepared better.  The bugs drove us crazy last time, buzzing in our face.  This time we had netting that went over our hats.

We did the about 2 mile boardwalk and managed just fine with the netting.  The bugs seem to only want to get in you face, they did not try to bite or land anywhere else.  Saw and heard a variety of birds and a lot of squirrels.

We finished the walk and got back to the car.  We were both very hot and damp.  I have always told Bruce that ladies glisten, women perspire and men sweat.  I skipped the glistening state and went straight to perspiring.  Bruce skipped the sweat mode and looked like he had been standing in a shower.  We had loaded the car with our swim bag which included not only our swim suits but towels.   We used those to dry off and Bruce had packed an extra shirt so he was able to change shirts before we headed back to the RV.
